Questions from a 1st time Jammer..

Re: Questions from a 1st time Jammer..

OK - I've got another "1st time Jammer" question for everyone.
Do the bands stick with the schedule pretty good? ie: Sammy Hagar is scheduled for 7PM. Will he be on stage at 7PM sharp, or will they just be starting to tune the guitars at 7PM? How long are the sets for each band? Do they go out there and play a 60 minute set and then leave, or does it vary from band to band?

For bands like Sammy and Styx, I will want to be seated with my freshly filled beer sitting in front of me when they hit the stage - I don't want to miss a note :D

Daveage - They stick pretty well to the set times but of course there could be problems occasionally. As for set length, usually they range from 1 hour and 10 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes. It is not like a regular concert where the opening bands have to play a quick set and get off. Everyone has their time slot and seemingly have the same amount of time to play.

That's a great question, Davage! Chris is right. One thing I'm not sure if it's mentioned here (altho I've seen it on another thread), if you have extra chairs bring them. We take our chairs into the Jam grounds and establish our spots on the hill early in the day - usually round early afternoon, 1:00ish. Don't worry, no one will mess with them. Jammers are the coolest (promise). The only thing, you may want to remember just where you put them cuz the site of that hill will change dramatically from when you go in early - 20-50-100 chairs - to later where it's hill to sand to VIP to beer hut PEOPLE!!

The extra chair is so you have one at camp, too!

Of course, you don't have to sit on the hill... that's is certainly THE COOLEST thing about Moondance. If you want to get up close, you can! So, if it's more your style to stand near the stage or in the crowd there, you can do that too!

Hi Lisa!

We won't be bringing any extra chairs with us - the car we are coming in is very tiny. The tents, coolers, sleeping bags and sunshade will pretty much fill it beyond capacity :)

We also bought VIP tickets this year, so I suspect we'll be in the VIP area drinking our faces off during most of the shows. I also like to get right down front and center for some bands. It is quite amazing how the volume is very tollerable front and center, but off to the sides near the amps,it is far too loud. (Which is why I am bringing 12 pairs of earplugs).

The reason I was asking about if the bands are on time.. A few years back at a similar event in Minnedosa Manitoba, the bands got shuffled around and the bands that I wanted to see ended up playing earlier than anticipated, so I missed them. Although looking at the camp site maps, I think that I'd hear the bands playing and have time to run over to see them :)

4 weeks from now, we should be about an hour or two away from the camp site! I'm sure we'll see you on the Tuesday..

I only remember one time that a band went on noticeably early Davage. That was a few years ago when they had an 80's metal night and they had to fit in one extra band that day.

Booze Prices

Postby Davage » Fri Jun 13, 2008 10:06 am

OK - Don't laugh at this question folks. I live in a country where booze is taxed to the hilt, so we pay a fortune for beer and wine here in Canada.

Roughly what is the price for 24 cans of Budweiser, Busch Beer, Imported Canadian beer?

How about the price of a 40oz bottle of Meyer's dark rum? or even the price of a cheap 40 oz bottle of vodka?

I'm planning my booze budget for the event :)

;) Davage-beings I watch for beer and liquor 'sales' to stock up for the Jams  We have bought 30 packs of Busch Lt for around $17.00, Bud products for a 24 around $17-$18.00, vodka (if you're not looking for the GOOD stuff) anywhere from $12.00 on up for a 1.75 liter, don't know about the rum though  My husband and friends just went to Canada fishing and they choose to pay extra to bring there own across the border because of Canadas high liquor prices!!!Hope this helps-I think Hippy said to stop at Happy Harrys Liquor in GF-that should be close to what their prices would be (I think) :?

thanks for the quick reply.. Those prices are about half of what the price of beer is here. I am not much of a hard liquor drinker, but every time I spend more than 48 hours in the USA, I bring home a 40oz bottle, because we are allowed 1 bottle per person after staying more than 48 hours. I keep them in the liquor cabinet until my buddy BlueObsidian60 comes to visit :) I am going to double-check to see how much liquor I can bring back after staying for 5 days :)

Thanks again for the prices!
