I don't think so. the quality of the music is what brings in the crowds and that's what will keep moondance going. you can't argue the fact that the years (or days) that the lineup has been stellar, the crowds are bigger. yes, you have all made good friends and you love the atmosphere and all the rest, if they stop bringing in good bands or bands all together, that's the end of moondance! it seems that the core group on here is trying to stand up for mdj at every turn. do you get some kinda special privileges if you support it no matter what? are you afraid to * off the powers that be? they want input, they want to hear the good and bad. if they don't get negetive feedback, nothing will change. as is the case with any music fest, if the music stops, the people stop coming. all of this "i'm here for the people and friends" bull drives me nuts. it's a music fest, bring in the bands and people will stop complaining and start showing up. how many people on here have said that they know multiple people that aren't coming this year because the lineup sucks? seems pretty cut and dry to me. you can camp and drink with friends anywhere and anytime, this is a music fest, first and foremost, the majority of people want good music! supply a quality product and the people will come. i am attending this year(at least part of the weekend), but only because i won tix. i would not pay for this lineup and obviously i'm not the only one who thinks that way.

No one says you can't be upset with the lineup. Even us 'flag wavers' have not been touting the greatness of this lineup. Everyone has their own musical tastes and the reasons they come to Moondance. I personally think all 3 headliners are worthy since they have closed either Moondance or similar festivals. After the headliners though, this lineup is not up the standard that Moondance has set in years past. I think they should do everything they can to have 12-15 national bands. Does that mean I am going to bash them constantly on this forum? No. I let the JWG know personally if I think the lineup is weak, if I think they should reconsider a bands time slot, if someone is not closer material, etc. Constantly bashing on here and getting people riled up about the festival I enjoy so much is not something I will do. I have too many years of fun at Moondance to just throw the jam under the bus for a lineup I don't like.

As for going nuts for the "i'm here for the people and friends" people, those people do exist. They aren't lying. I know people who regularly see less than half the bands and spend the majority of time hanging out at camp. That is what the jam is to them. There are also plenty non-campers who just come in for the last couple bands. That is what the jam is for them. Myself, I don't miss a mainstage performance and I try to catch at least part of every saloon performance. There aren't many who see more bands than I do. However, I now look forward to seeing the friends I have made just as much as the bands. It is 4+ days to forget about everything and just enjoy everything Moondance has to offer. That is what the jam is to me. If you have to take a year off, take a year off and maybe next year it will be better for you. I can't imagine swearing off the jam forever for one year that didn't meet my expectations.

I am confident that those in charge know how people feel about this year's lineup. For whatever reason, the lineup isn't what most have come to expect. I hope we still get good crowds so the jam can continue. I would think most people who consider themselves jammers would want the same thing.
The music brought me to Moondance Jam. The people bring me back.

@Chris: :clap:

There's nothing wrong with respectfully expressing one's displeasure, but the full effect of one's concern/opinion/disappointment can easily be had in 1 or 2 good paragraphs. Beyond that it becomes destructive and counterproductive, nothing good comes of it. As we know, some kept beating it to death and couldn't seem to simmer down or let it go. A saying I use a lot is that there's the freedom to express and discuss, and then there's the proverbial child in the school cafeteria who reaches across the table to smash another kids sandwich because he doesn't like peanut butter. I'm sure through reading on here, e-mails and maybe some number crunching, the powers have their finger on the pulse. Sure, I've speculated in my mind all kinds of things, wondered. Is it a direct result of the booking agent change? Did the decision to go ahead with Country Jam in December affect the resources for our rock MDJ? Is Country Jam nursing on rock's teat this year to help give it a shot in the arm? Round and round in my head, as was on here by several Jammers. We're not in on the conference calls, we're not flies on the walls of those in charge. I don't know. Most of us don't know. Respect without anger and harsh words is all anyone needs for their talking points to be received. My 2 cents. 'Nuf on that from me.

Time to make my taco salad :D

Cheers!

There was no "bashing" in my post. It's opinion and questioning. Go ahead and delete me, this is America, you have your rights and so do I. If you want this board to be all nicey, nicey, you're dreaming. It's open to the public. Not being able to post on here won't stop me from showing up and jammin'. For the sake of peace, I'll shut up and let you have your perfect message board and wish you all good luck with the future of your mdj.

My problem is that so many don't see that some of us are excited about this lineup. Of the acts coming, we have only seen Don Felder and I will gladly spend my evening with him again. We have never seen Kid Rock, NightRanger, GFR, Fogerty or Heart and they are some of our favorites. Love Hinder, 3DG, and Skid Row also. Have been looking into Atomic Punks and Motley Inc. and sounds and looks like we are in for one hell of a show. I'm not a cheerleader, just excited. Only been going for 3 years and don't even remember everybody's name at VIP yet, but when I walk through the gates I just feel better. The music is what gets us there, and the music and the atmoshpere keep us there, and no matter what anyone else does, my wife and I are excited and know we will have a good time.

I have been thinking about the lineup, wondering what might be happening. The Powers That Be at MDJ are in no way rookies at this, so it would seem reasonable that maybe there is more to consider. Visiting Pollstar regularly to keep an eye on who is announcing tours and where they are performing, I just don't see as many bands touring the Midwest this summer. Maybe it has something to do with high gas prices during the booking season, which most certainly raises the asking price for any band and therefore makes routing harder. The high price of gas might also cause some artists to hang on one coast or the other where venues are a bit closer together. Gotta remember that each band is its own business and they need to manage costs.

I have also noticed a LOT of bands touring Europe this summer, which maybe has something to do with The Olympics and the entertainment needs surrounding that event. Maybe gigs pay better in Europe.

So let's hold onto the hope that the final two band announcements will yield something we all like. Veteran Jammers can rattle off any number of bands that have played at 5pm in the past and been among the highlights of the whole weekend. I DO still hope, though, that they change their mind and put a real band in at 5pm on Saturday as well, rather than a tribute band.

DUDE! I know, right? :D

I remember a few years back when the dollar tanked and most bands were touring Europe chasing after the Euro. Landing a solid lineup was tough, and slow to fill at that. Then the Euro followed suit, the dollar saw a little rebound before the Euro by next summer and we had an awesome lineup. Yeah, hard to say.

gopherboy, I feel the same way, I'm looking forward to many of the bands, and those I don't know I'll at least check out.

I didn't write the rules, and JWG regulates what gets said on this page. I will only delete pornographic pics & if you are selling tickets, all other posts go thru him. I didn't and don't like the namecalling, but I won't delete your posts just for that. But I can ask you to please stop. Like Chris stated, we all have different lives, different views of Moondance, and different tastes in music. Or friendship in general. I guess what rubs me wrong in the way some post, is how too many post like they are the authority on the matter. Keep posting, or don't. But if you do, you should at the very least expect a response.

Plus, it's probably more helpful to send a COMMENT to the PtB using the Comments link on the mainpage http://moondancejam.com/contact.html because I know for fact they don't all read this page.

I get it, I'm just too sensitive.

Totally agree with you. Personally I think they could really bring this event back around with one simple maneuver...Make GFR a 5 and get a real 9. Simple. Although I am not excited about the overall event I am really disappointed in Saturday, hopefully they are listening and do something about it; there is still plenty of time.
