Josh Marunde (Chachi Riot) - drums
Dave Grahs – rhythm and lead guitar, backing vocals
Matt DiRito – bass, backing vocals
Nick Fueling – lead and rhythm guitar, backing vocals

The musicians who would eventually become Pop Evil formed in Michigan in 2001 by singer Leigh Kakaty. Their would be several changes among band members as the band struggled to gain a following. In 2007, the band scored a management deal with G&G Entertainment and the band went to work on their debut album. That album, Lipstick on the Mirror, was released in 2008. While initially not selling well, it caught the attention of Universal Records, who re-released the album one year later. This helped the album become successful behind three top 30 Mainstream Rock Hits with “Hero,” “Breathe,” and the #8 “100 in a 55.” After several delays and a split from Universal Records, the follow-up album War of Angels finally dropped on July 5, 2011 on eOne Music. It reached #43 on the charts and three songs reached the top 10 in the Mainstream Rock chart, “Last Man Standing” (#7), “Monster You Made,” (#6) and “Boss’s Daughter” (#8). Another song, “Purple,” reached the top 20. The band toured extensively with several bands, most notably appearing on the “Trespass America Festival” with Five Finger Death Punch and Killswitch Engage, among others. Their 3rd album, Onyx, was released in 2013 and has continued to build upon the success of their first two albums and has taken the band to even bigger heights. “Trenches,” “Deal with the Devil,” and “Torn to Pieces” have all reached #1 on the Mainstream Rock Chart and the album reached #39. The band will be making their first appearance at Moondance Jam on Thursday at 5pm.

My Take
Pop Evil has quickly shot up my list of bands I can’t wait to see this year. Right now they are at #3 on my list behind Frampton (of course!) and Shinedown. They have had a run on the rock charts since 2008 that rivals most any other rock band during that time period. Their string of three straight #1’s on that chart alone makes this a band you should not miss at this year’s jam. Unfortunately they are not playing many US dates this summer or I would definitely be catching them in concert before the jam. I had heard of Pop Evil for several years but neglected to check them out until they signed with the jam. Now I am kicking myself. They have a great rock sound that jammers will love. I think that in 5 years they will be headlining festivals like Moondance Jam. We are getting a real treat having them at 5pm on what has shaped up to be a phenomenal night of rock music. They are easily the band I am looking forward to the most on jam Thursday. And that is saying something with the likes of Papa Roach and Nickelback on the bill that night. I know many longtime jammers are skeptical of newer music but I highly suggest you check Pop Evil out before the jam. You will not be disappointed.
The music brought me to Moondance Jam. The people bring me back.

These guys and Black Stone Cherry will provide some great rock music to warm us up for Papa Roach and Nickelback. I think Pop Evil could be this year's Skillet...awesome high energy rock and roll.
Moondance Jam...the best 4, make that 7 days of my year!
