Alter Bridge – Thursday at 7pm

Myles Kennedy – lead vocals, rhythm and lead guitar
Mark Tremonti – lead and rhythm guitar, backing vocals
Brian Marshall – bass
Scott Phillips – drums, percussion

Alter Bridge rose from the ashes of the band Creed, who split up in 2004 with lead singer Scott Stapp going his own way. The remaining three original members, Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall, and Scott Phillips, soon found The Mayfield Four singer Myles Kennedy and went to work on an album. The band’s debut, One Day Remains, came out that year and spawned three top 30 US Mainstream Rock Chart hits. Both “Open Your Eyes” (#2) and “Find the Real” (#7) reached the top 10. The album rose to #5 and reached gold status. After a label switch, the band released sophomore effort Blackbird in 2007. It reached #13 behind three more top 30 hits, lead by the #2 “Rise Today.” The band released a successful CD/DVD titled Live from Amsterdam from that tour that reached #1 on Amazon. The band took a break for the Creed reunion in 2009, which gave Kennedy a chance to record with Slash, which he still does today. After yet another label change, the band released AB III in 2010. The album would contain the band’s first #1 hit in “Isolation.” The album reached #17 and “Ghost of Days Gone By” reached #4. The band recorded and released yet another live show at the famed Wembley Arena in 2011. 2012 would bring another Creed tour but Alter Bridge continued working together and released Fortress in 2013. The album opened at #12 behind the #4 hit “Addicted to Pain.” The band plans another live release titled Live in Milan this summer. The band will be making their first appearance at Moondance Jam at 7pm on Jam Thursday.

Did You Know?
The name Alter Bridge is named after a bridge on Alter Road, which borders Detroit and Grosse Point Park where Tremonti once lived.
Creed reformed in 2009 for an album and tour and Kennedy began recording and touring with Slash.
Kennedy previously sang for the band The Mayfield Four.
One Day Remains is the only album by the band that does not have Kennedy play guitar.
“Open Your Eyes” was featured in Madden NFL 2005.
The solo from “Blackbird” was voted the #1 Greatest Guitar Solo of All Time in a 2011 poll from musicradar.com.
Total Guitar named “Ties That Bind” the 41st greatest guitar song of the decade.
Kennedy performed at last year’s Moondance Jam with Slash.
The band released Alter Bridge X in 2014 to celebrate their 10th anniversary as a band.
The release was limited to 3000 copies and contained 27 discs, which contained all previous releases as well as unreleased songs and live footage.
The band recorded a version of “Watch Over You” with Lacuna Coil singer Cristina Scabbia.
The song is usually played solo acoustic by Kennedy during concerts.
Kennedy made a cameo appearance in the movie Rock Star, with Mark Wahlberg.
Kennedy turned down an offer to join Velvet Revolver before joining Alter Bridge.
He now is an active member of both Alter Bridge and Slash’s band (Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators).
He sang two songs on Slash’s debut solo album and all the songs on his 2nd album.
The pair have had 3 US Mainstream Rock Hits, lead by #1 “You’re a Lie.”
Kennedy sang on Halestorm’s “Here’s to Us (Guest Version),” which was available on a reissue of their The Strange Case of… album.
Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale performed “Watch Over You” in Brussels with Myles Kennedy in 2013. See video below!!
“Waters Rising” features lead vocals by guitarist Mark Tremonti.

My Take
The buzz after Slash’s performance last year was one of the best I have ever seen at Moondance Jam. People were blown away by Slash, of course, but most everyone also gushed over lead singer Myles Kennedy. His powerful voice and stage presence can stand up to the talent and celebrity status of Slash. I can’t wait to see Kennedy front his own band at this year’s jam. Yes, I know that the band consists of former (and sometimes current) members of Creed, but Alter Bridge is a great band in its own right. Each of their albums have contained hits and have been well received by both fans and critics. While I really like Creed’s music, I can’t stand front man Scott Stapp. He just seems like such a pompous jerk both onstage and in real life. I once saw Creed a year apart (1999-2000) in the same venue and I swear they played a nearly identical setlist at both shows and Stapp said the exact same things in between songs like he was reading from a script. I saw this as both a lack of spontaneity and artistic creativity. I said then and there I would never spend another dime on Creed as a band and I haven’t. I saw great promise in the band too after they played a phenomenal set our KC Rockfest in 1997. I have always been impressed with Alter Bridge since they formed in 2004 but I have never been able to see them. I have seen Kennedy with Slash three times and he has always blown me away with his ability as a front man. He commands the stage and he will have the jam rocking just as he did last year with Slash. In my opinion they are a great 7pm signing and will be a huge part of what I think will be the biggest night of the jam this year. Jam Thursday will be a night that jammers will talk about for years.

I totally agree on this one Chris. I really like Alter Bridge and think they are a great 7 band. The Blackbird video from Wembley is awesome.
Moondance Jam...the best 4, make that 7 days of my year!
