Songs of the Day 2015

Postby Chris » Mon Jun 01, 2015 9:36 am

It is time for my annual Songs of the Day thread. I think I will give double shots of two bands each day for the first round of songs and I will go in order of the national bands. So today I start with a pair from the Pat Travers Band and a couple from Pop Evil, who I really have gotten into since their signing. Great stuff.

From Pat Travers I have his version of Lead Belly's "Black Betty" (made famous by Ram Jam) and my one of my favorites from him "Life in London."

From Pop Evil I have "Deal with the Devil," which to me sounds like Alice in Chains mixed with a little Rob Zombie, and their big hit "Torn to Pieces," which for some reason has a maddening squeak several times in the song but is a great song. The squeak starts at :33 and is in all the slower parts of the song, someone tell me what that is!

Black Betty takes me back a bit, to when I was young free and single, oh for those days again lol. Pop Evil sound like many other bands of their time/ilk, I'll be there and give them a go, but I can't say they're gonna be in my top 5.

Today we have a pair each from Black Stone Cherry and Papa Roach. From Black Stone Cherry there is "Rain Wizard," which they played last time they were here and "Me and Mary Jane," from their 2014 Magic Mountain album. For Papa Roach, I've included their first hit "Last Resort" as well as "Getting Away with Murder." Careful if you are listening at work, "Last Resort" has just a bit of cussing...

Fixed! I was debating on those two and I guess I decided on both of them.

And that "Torn to Pieces" squeak is on all studio versions of that song. I bought the album - same thing! I'd like to know what it is!

Today we have a double shot from Thursday night closers Nickelback and from Honeymoon Suite, who will kick off Friday.

From Nickelback, there is their #1 smash "How You Remind Me" and their latest hit "Million Miles an Hour."

From Honeymoon Suite, we have their classic rock radio staple "New Girl Now" and the ultra-80's video of "Wave Babies."

I'm a little late today getting some songs posted. Today's songs are from Vixen and Jefferson Starship (actually one is from Jefferson Airplane).

From Vixen there is their #26 hit in 1988 "Edge of a Broken Heart" and "Rev It Up," the title song from their 2nd album. From Jefferson Starship is their #14 hit from 1979 "Jane" and from Jefferson Airplane #8 hit from 1967 "White Rabbit." Enjoy!

Sorry to barge in on your thread matey, but this was recorded yesterday in a cold wet Glasgow, and it was cold and wet I was there (not for the gig unfortunately). Because of this they said it played havoc with the acoustic guitar tuning, but sounds OK to me

Thanks Ian! I'm at a swim meet all weekend so I've had trouble posting new songs! Sounds good! I can't wait to see them!
