Help!!!

Postby Texsurfin » Thu Feb 23, 2012 12:48 pm

Hey Jammers,

I need some help. I am a R&R Junkie. I live in Texas via the SF Bay Area where I grew up seeing bands like Journey, Eddie Money, Sammy Haggar....all kinds of great Bay Area Bands, Love the 80's hair bands as well and am really excited about flying up to see the Jam for the first time. I have been to about 100 concerts but went to my first Festival at Rocknamerica which was sparsely attended but a Blast! I am waitng to see what other bands will be added before I make final plans, because right now, Heart, Kid Rock and Hinder are not enough for me to drop alot of money on. I've seen Heart and they are great. I'm judging MDJ by their past line-ups which has been amazing so hoping this year's will be as well.

I realize they haven't posted much, but before I book flights/accomodations, was hoping some of you could give me some tips advice on the following questions?

1. What airport would I fly into (Minneapolis?) How close is that to MJD?
2. Is a VIP pass (currently for $400) worth it? I noticed the VIP section is kinda off to the side rather than right in front of the stage.
3. Suggestions on Lodging? I'm not a tent kind of camper and we would be flying, so any close by cabins you suggest?
4. Better to just take public transportation/shuttle?

My wife and I attend about 8 concerts a year (last year saw Aerosmith, Motley, Poison, Def Leppard, Cheap Trick, Styx, Journey, Foreigner, Night Ranger, Cinderella, Stevie Nicks. This year already have tickest for Survivor/Starship and Van Halen. If MJD books Boston we are all in.

Any help?....and I am website challenged

Welcome!!! You will love Moondance! I will try to answer your questions:

1. What airport would I fly into (Minneapolis?) How close is that to MJD?
Minneapolis is around 3 1/2 to 4 hours from jam land.

2. Is a VIP pass (currently for $400) worth it? I noticed the VIP section is kinda off to the side rather than right in front of the stage.
I have gone VIP for the last 6 years and I think it is worth it. It really depends on the person though. I always did it at first because I didn't camp so I didn't have food and drink readily available. The last couple years I camped but still did VIP. I am undecided what I will do this year. Read an old review I did of VIP at http://www.moondancejam.com/info-vipreview.html.

3. Suggestions on Lodging? I'm not a tent kind of camper and we would be flying, so any close by cabins you suggest?
Before I started camping I stayed in a few different places and by far the best was Trapper's Landing Lodge, which is about 7 miles straight east of the jam. They also provide a shuttle each day to and from the jam. Read about them at http://www.trapperslandinglodge.com/.

4. Better to just take public transportation/shuttle?
See my above answer. Most local hotels provide a shuttle to the jam for a price. You can also drive to Northern Lights Casino and take that shuttle. But then you will have to drive to your hotel and cops are always in full force after the jam.
The music brought me to Moondance Jam. The people bring me back.

We drive from Fargo, ND, which is exactly a 2 hour drive without a camper, a little bit more with... allowing some extra for ALL the JAM traffic!!! We always stay in the campgrounds so I don't know much about lodging... if you go the the Moondance site (http://www.MoondanceJam.com) I believe there are some links to lodging spots, too!! Might be spendy, and might be booked. If you rent a car, there are a few other little towns within a half hour-hour drive from JamLand, too. Good luck. And WELCOME!! :D
