You see, there was a time when beer made me do great things. When I look back, I think age 32 was the turning point, the age where the magic seemed to disappear.
Pre-32 after several beers-----Flexible as Plastic Man, graceful as a ballerina. I had superhuman strength and could snatch a running cheetah by the tail. The poetry flowed. The storytelling was grand, vocabulary swelled. Both sides of my pillow were cool, and I could have inside jokes with any passerby I've never seen before.
Post-32 after several beers-----Still flexible and loose, but in ways that make me far less graceful. Not so tough either, and I really don't care to run. I speak with incomplete sentences, usually because I forget in-stride what I was talking about in the first place. I tune out, and can gaze into the setting sun for minutes on end, mouth hanging open, blinking once every 2 minutes or so. I try to lock in to a conversation to see if I can add something to it, but the numbness of my brain overtakes me, and I can't figure out what the hell they are talking about. I break out in a good laugh over something stupid and tinkle in my cow print boxers.
Somehow.....somewhere.....something got lost along the way.

I saw Aerosmith in '98 in Duluth, a rescheduled show on their scaled back smaller venue leg of the tour, the time Steven Tyler was recovering from getting hit in the knee with a mic stand. We got our tickets just before selling out, and we were actually behind the stage. Most of the show we could see their backs, but on some occasions some tapestries would rise along the back and totally block our view. We got a lot of pyro heat and smoke too. However, during a longer guitar solo, Steven Tyler ran to the backstage, came down, and ran over in front of us. As expected, many of us crowded the railing and reached down for a hand slap or something. He stopped about 7 feet below us, pulled out a tissue, blew his nose in it, threw it up at us, turned and ran back on stage. Not sure if anyone caught the tissue, but I know I pulled my hand back a bit. Still worth the ticket though. Would've been cool to see one of their bigger shows though. A lady on my trivia team saw them too this weekend, and gave a very positive review as well.
